My dearest,

There are new flowers today — some very lovely stalks of chrysanthemum, pale mauve petals tightly cloistered like a gaggle of nuns praying together. The café manager trims them down to size and prepares to dispose of the older flowers to make space for these new ones.

Ah! but the coral-coloured gerberas are still beautiful — surely it would be a waste to dispose of them so soon? She collects them, one by one, from their individual bottles of water and shortens them considerably before placing them in a smaller jar of water. A single long stalk of gerbera is exquisite; a bouquet of them is an explosion of colour, of light, of joy.

Just like you.

Yours, ever and always.
