LOVE FOR BEGINNERS // 情書

My dearest,

It’s raining again. The streets of the city flood swiftly. Hours later, the waters recede. Cold so we have some hot udon for dinner. Warms us up some. Lovely. We drive out of the mall, the traffic’s horrendous. The rain has stopped and the cars too, it seems.

Eventually we reach the café. The girls greet us in unison. What would we like to drink, something hot? Yes, please. I make you guess what I’ll be having. You get it right after seven tries and three hints from me. Green tea and milk and coffee — a most splendid hot beverage.

I sip slowly, the fragrance of the green tea mingling with that of this strange violet bloom in the wine bottle (half-filled with water, not wine) on the table.

The streets are washed clean. It’s a good day and the evening looks even better.

Yours, ever and always.
