LOVE FOR BEGINNERS // 情書

April 29, 2014

My dearest,

You send me a message. You are watching a video of a rat snake catching rats and then a king cobra eating the poor rat snake. Each animal has its favourite food, it seems.

I scold you for watching serpentine documentaries; just last night you watched some and had slithery nightmares. Won’t you ever learn?

But, you insist, snakes are so much fun to watch.

An hour later you tell me you just watched this video of a pelican swallowing a pigeon. Curious, I can’t help myself. Bloody disgusting, I tell you, four minutes later. You agree and add, But it’s so cool!

Minutes pass and this time I’m sending you a message. There’s this documentary about a crocodile in a straight fight with a shark…

They say if you can’t beat them, join them, don’t they? This is one way of sharing the same space though you are in Luanda and I am in Kuala Lumpur, continents away from each other. Watching animals eating other animals together is more romantic than a candlelit dinner or a bouquet of expensive roses.

Don’t knock it till you’ve tried it.

Yours, ever and always.
