Lavender butter cake

August 8, 2013

Hey you,

We’re in the kitchen again:

“And the final thing to do is to drizzle the glaze over the cake,” I say.

“What’s in the glaze?” you ask.

“Well, it’s supposed to be lemon juice and icing sugar, but I’ve used lemon juice, lavender honey and lavender buds.”

“It’s not healthier, mind you. Honey’s still sweet, still sugar. But it does seem nicer, doesn’t it?”

“Yes. It’s brilliant.”

“Actually that’s not the last step. The final thing to do is this,” I say as I sprinkle some salt over the cake, from some height above it.

“Sea salt,” you say.

“It ought to be, if we had any. This is actually the salt we brought back from Maras, Peru. Mountain salt, I guess? Valley salt, maybe?”

“I miss Peru.”

“Me too.”

“I want to go back there some day.”

“Sure. Can I come too?”

“Of course, silly.”

We make such a good team, we do.

Yours always and always,
