LOVE FOR BEGINNERS // 情書

My dearest,

How was your day, my dear? Mine had music in it, a series of melodic tinkling at a café.

“Rather cutesy and cheerful, eh?” I said.

“It’s Friday!” the barista told me, a code for the weekend-almost-having-arrived.

I smiled and we bantered back and forth as she made coffee and I hunted for typos in articles. A slow, easy day. We nourished ourselves with work and with companionship. Customer and café owner. We allowed ourselves to be happy and grateful, away from the grouchy folks in the streets outside, nudging one another for parking bays and in long lines to pay for groceries and their daily bread.

It’s Friday. Hooray!

Yours, ever and always.
