LOVE FOR BEGINNERS // 情書

July 2, 2012

My dearest,

I hear a sudden “Wooarrgghhh…”, a midnight gurgle. Blood-curdling. It’s you.

You’re having a nightmare. It’s probably snakes. Chasing you, perhaps. Some mornings after you will tell me about your dreams; sometimes you don’t remember them. I’ve come to find my own solution for your nightmares the rare times when they do occur — my arms wrapped around you till your slumber is peaceful again.

This time though, before I can reach out for you, your hand instinctively takes hold of mine and grips it hard. I grasp back, a steady prayer for the nightmares to go away and not come back, not even another day. Your breathing steadies as does mine. Before we know it, we are asleep again and then it’s morning. We wake up looking at each other, a smile on our faces.

Yours, ever and always.
