LOVE FOR BEGINNERS // 情書

My dearest,

You lied.

You said you were chatting with your friend online, trying to book your hotel room in Sydney. You said you were busy. And so I didn’t disturb you. Then you called. And asked me if I missed you.

“Of course I do.”

“Then come downstairs.”

“What?”

“Come downstairs. I’ve got a surprise for you.”

“You mean you’re here? At my apartment? I thought…”

And off I ran. The elevator couldn’t arrive faster. And there you were, with your mischievous grin. The Devil indeed.

You brought me strawberries. Freshly plucked from the Cameron Highlands. You drove across the night to get here. To be here. With me. We had the strawberries with some vanilla Häagen-Dazs ice-cream I found in my fridge. A perfect mix of slightly sour and oh so sweet…

You lied. Oh but such sweet lies…

Yours, ever and always.
