LOVE FOR BEGINNERS // 情書

My dearest,

They say opposites attract. A cliché, yet certainly we are opposites in some ways.

To me, a home should be tidy. Everything in its place. You tell me a home should be where we can relax, and what could be cosier than leaving stuff all over the place, wherever we like?

I tell you that’s not cosy, that’s marking our territory. You tell me being overly tidy is a sign of obsessive-compulsive behaviour.

And yet.

I do not mind when you throw your clothes this way and that. It’s an opportunity to be mindful, for me, to bring order to chaos. You do not mind when I pick them up and put them away and you have to ask me where things are because they’re not where you left them last. We wonder who’s the boss.

The answer, clearly, is neither of us. Our life together is a dance, a give and take, clutter and clean up. It makes things interesting. We are never bored, and isn’t that what matters?

Thank you for allowing me to clean up after you. You’re welcome for our tidy, cosy home.

Yours, ever and always.
