LOVE FOR BEGINNERS // 情書

November 9, 2022

My dearest,

Isn’t it strange how often we remark that we are getting older?

After all, no one grows younger. Yet we are feeling our age more and more nowadays. An aching left knee, a right elbow that hurts. Neck pain from staring at devices for far too long or resting our head on a lumpy pillow.

Even seeing the doctor becomes a series of repeat visits until the right dosage hits the spot. (Scary how swiftly we develop tolerance to increasingly stronger antibiotics.)

Which is to say I am glad that when we exchanged our vows, we promised to look after each other through sickness and in health. For “this, too, shall pass” and everything cycles as the seasons turn. Winter to spring, summer to fall.

What matters is that we are constant in our care for one another through the changes. As we get older, let our love deepen and strengthen. As we grow wiser, may our happiness flourish too, like a garden in full bloom, each blossom more beautiful than the last.

Yours, ever and always.
