LOVE FOR BEGINNERS // 情書

April 25, 2012

My dearest,

It’s almost time. We need to head there before 12:30 when the freshly roasted siew yoke comes out. The thick slabs of creamy pork belly fat and crispy crackling (so flavourful, it tastes like lard crisps would) have rested only for a while so they are still irresistibly warm. We order two portions; any less and it just wouldn’t do.

The only thing is, once the siew yoke and two plates of rice arrives, we realise neither of us want that much rice. Half a plate would do nicely. As with the bowls of ramen, we ought to have shared one serving. Life is more than sharing a life together; sometimes it’s about splitting the carbs too.

Yours, ever and always.
