LOVE FOR BEGINNERS // 情書

My dearest,

It’s a holiday. Everyone is either travelling across state lines for the long weekend or lazing at home, grateful for some rest.

We indulge in neither. Instead we head to our regular café for coffee and pastries. Filter coffee first, two different roasters and their take on Ethiopian beans. Local roasters, for a bit of National Day spirit.

Then a cheese-encrusted croissant and a pain au chocolat, the paper-thin layers of pastry crackling beneath our teeth. Another round of coffee, espresso based this time: a dirty and a cortado. Now we are the ones crackling, with nervy energy. Caffeine does that to you.

It’s a holiday. It’s an ordinary day, another simple day together. It’s a perfect day, whenever I’m with you. It always has been. It always will be, my darling.

Yours, ever and always.
