LOVE FOR BEGINNERS // 情書

My dearest,

This morning I swam 14 laps in the pool. I had been building up to this slowly, two laps more each session. Often I do these laps in sets of two or four. You, on the other hand, can swim 40 laps or more easy, without taking a single break.

Then there is you running on the treadmill, five kilometres or more. Again, easy. I grow bored pedalling on the stationary bike after 15, 20 minutes. Cardio is clearly your thing and not really mine.

But that is okay. I don’t have to keep up or compete with you. (We are only ever competing with ourselves anyway.)

Instead observing how well you do cardio and how much you enjoy it is an inspiration for me to do more of it too. I might never swim as efficiently or run as far, but one day I might just enjoy it as much as you do. Thank you.

Yours, ever and always.
