My dearest,
Tonight is Chap Goh Mei. Another year when singletons gather over bodies of water and throw mandarin oranges, wrapped in wishes.
May we find the One for us. May we find our Only. May we find True Love.
We don’t throw citrus fruits away, what a waste. Not into flowing water, not into the garbage, not at one another (though sometimes we annoy each other enough the idea is tempting).
No, instead we peel mandarin oranges, pricking the crown where the stem used to be, stripping the vibrant leathery skin, pulling away the white threads of pith, removing these fibrous webs to uncover juicy segments. Sweetness and fullness.
And feed each other.
Maybe our life always be sweet and full. Oh my true love, oh my one and only.
Yours, ever and always.
