My dearest,

We had a wonderful, early dinner. A bowl of hot wakame udon, the seaweed and the choy sum making for a nice mix of slippery and crunchy. I dunk the mass of kakiage into my soup, rendering the deep-fried vegetables soft and more savoury somehow. I order an extra plate of karaage and kushiage. One can’t have too much chicken, honestly. All washed down with glass after glass of cold green tea.

What a wonderful dinner. But an early one.

Three hours later I am hungry again. Gratefully I peek into our fridge and discover the artisanal dark chocolate we bought in Amsterdam. I break off a couple of squares, let them warm up to room temperature and then take my first bite.

Oh boy.

Perfect after-dinner snack. Good for the heart too, I announce. You just shake your head and say, “You’re just greedy.”

Oh boy, you sure know me well.

Yours, ever and always.
