My dearest,

You tell you had watched a clip about the different types of swimming styles but couldn’t find your default approach – the frog style. A quick bit of googling later and you realised the professionals call it the breast stroke.

Why ever do they call it that, you ask. Men don’t have breasts.

Actually our chests fall under the category of the breast, I say, perhaps only half convinced. This is why we say walking abreast.

Well, why don’t they call it the chest stroke then?

Why don’t they? You’re right, of course. They should. But of course we already have a better name for it: Do it froggy style.

And you continue by telling me how you go about your laps in the pool, first slow then alternating between fast and slow, interval training in the water. And so on.

I learn so much from you, my dear, even the stuff I never knew I needed to know. And the stuff I didn’t need to know? I enjoy hearing them anyhow because it is you who is sharing them.

It’s you telling me the story of your day and it’s me who gets to listen. Oh how lucky am I, truly!

Yours, ever and always.
