My dearest,
It’s pouring and dark outside. We get into our car and put the wipers on. Driving out of our neighbourhood when it’s perfect for lazing at home would seem a chore usually but we have a dinner appointment with our friend. Clear tom yum soup with pork trotters. Claypot rice noodles with prawns and pork belly. More pork, this time fried with kaffir lime leaves in crispy matrimony. It’s a perfect meal to salute the rain.
Later: we skip the sliced mango and glutinous rice. Instead we head for cappuccinos and iced caffè lattes around the corner. We lean back against drawings on the wall; illustrations by caffeinated cavemen perhaps. We scan our Facebook newsfeeds and we gossip like little birds. Tweet, tweet.
Oh what a night.
Yours, ever and always.
