LOVE FOR BEGINNERS // 情書

My dearest,

“I can’t find it,” I say.

“Can’t find what?” you ask.

“That picture of the French toast we had at Kim Gary. It’s missing.”

“It can’t be missing. Have you tried the external hard disk drive? The black one?”

“I have.”

“The other external hard disk drive? The white one? Have you tried that?”

“I have.”

“How about the other other external hard disk drive? The other white one, I mean? Did you try…”

“I have, I have, I have.”

I grow grumpy as the search prove fruitless. I’m missing a photograph for an article I’m writing and it’s especially annoying since I’ve had this particular French toast plenty of times before. I should be wading in pictures of this sticky-sweet Hong Kong-style char chan teng treat. But I’m not. No picture. Nada.

You walk over to my table. “If you really need it, let’s go to Kim Gary tomorrow and order the French toast. Then you can take another picture.”

And quite suddenly, I don’t really need to. I have exactly what I need. I just needed the reminder.

Yours, ever and always.
