LOVE FOR BEGINNERS // 情書

My dearest,

We don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day. We never did.

It’s just another day, we say. A marketing ruse, we tell others and each other. Why act differently just on one day of the year?

Any day can be Valentine’s Day, if we live well and celebrate accordingly.

It is Valentine’s Day when we toast guests at our wedding with flutes of champagne, the wine sparkling like the light in our eyes.

It is Valentine’s Day when we get a break from the monotony of a hotel quarantine as you narrate the journey of a boba jelly tea delivered wrongly to your room, and the staff telling you to go ahead and enjoy it, a sweet surprise I too enjoy, savouring every detail of your story.

It is Valentine’s Day when we text each other daily, loveloveyous in emojis and stickers.

We don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day. We don’t have to when we live it every single day.

Yours, ever and always.
