LOVE FOR BEGINNERS // 情書

My dearest,

You would always tell me to buy it.

Whatever the object is, so long as we have sufficient disposable income and you know I want it, that’ll be your reaction.

It’s not always the case: some things are superfluous or too expensive. But I rarely crave ridiculous stuff anyway.

But I’m loathe to spend when I can save. I’m not thrifty but perhaps suffering from a pauper’s syndrome; I always feel like I’m too poor to waste money.

You’re not a spendthrift but you are generous. And you know, perhaps without knowing, that we are only on this earth for so long. We are here now and if this object brings us joy now then let us welcome it to our home. Let us use it and be happy.

Details make all the difference. Like the Leuchturm journals you encouraged me to buy; you saw the light turn on in my eyes. And you were right: they were a worthy purchase, an investment in simple happiness.

You remind me it’s not objects that make us happy but what we do with it and the memories we make together.

Thank you. May we always teach each other. May we always learn.

Yours, ever and always.
